Welcome to myDilemma.net! My name is Eric Vana and this website is a showcase of my written works. There are a number of other things here as well: links, an autobiography, and a journal if you haven't noticed. Don't be shy about sending me an email -- I'll be glad to hear from you. This website is being constantly updated to make it better; so buckle your boot straps and get ready for a potentially interesting ride!

"Airborne and Short Lived"
Our feathered friends from above had a feast
They gaily nibbled on berries and eats
But little did they know their time was to end
For there was a poison in the bellies of our friends
The Phoenix, their lord, cast a spell on the weak
To poison the juice that covers their beaks
And the joyous festivities that the day with began
would soon become tragic for our feathersome friends
Their songs became quiet at the end of the day
They never saw it coming for their minds were a haze
Our sleek pretty sparrows flew lame as a pidge
and met their grave doom at the hands of a bridge
O' sparrows! O' sparrows!
We did love your song!
O' sparrows! O' sparrows!
With Phoenix you belong!

The weather was beautiful yesterday, so I took a walk down to the park with my camera and snapped some photos. Out of the 35 shots I took, one caught my eye more than the others. It's a little blurry.

I forgot to mention, the first vegetables to be carved into jack-o-lanterns were, you guessed it, turnips! Don't ask me how you carve a turnip.

The origins of our Halloween celebrations date back to the ancient Celtic people's yearly celebration of Samhain approximately two thousand years ago. Samhain was a "feast of the dead", and it also marked the end of the harvest.
You can thank the Christians and the Scandinavians for wiping out our Pagan friends. But you should really thank the Pagans for giving you a reason to stuff your fat face with candy once a year. And then thank the Christians for giving you two more at Christmas and Easter.
All in all, Halloween is a great time to look back and reflect on how productive your harvest, or life, has been for the past year. However, you should only do that if you're prepared to be depressed.
Happy Halloween, everyone!

Aw, crap. I forgot to celebrate the one year anniversary of myDilemma.net! Shit. I'll have to whip something up later.
In other news, I bought a laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 9100. Maybe I'll take some pictures. Then again, maybe I won't.

Yikes, it's already been forty days since my last update. Sorry!
In a few weeks the location of this personal site will be moved to something like "me.mydilemma.net" or a similar address. The myDilemma.net address will be used as a portal to several other websites that are currently in development. The first being an experimental community site used for the online workshopping of short stories, essays and poetry. The second, however, is still in the brainstorming process.
Perhaps in a later post I will write down some more information.
My life has been painfully creeping along. I haven't done anything spectacular, written anything of value, or seen any good movies since I last posted. I will be heading up to Minneapolis this weekend so I should have something a little more exciting to bring to the table. But for now, head on over to dujodu.com for some real entertainment.

Let's see. I've read four Philip K. Dick books in the last two weeks. The first one was VALIS, and I have to say that it was one of the better books I've read in a while. Totally insane, yet totally awesome. The next two were also in the "VALIS Trilogy", Divine Invasion and The Transmigration of Timothy Archer. Neither were nearly as good as VALIS, but still highly entertaining and thought provoking. The last one I read on the way back from Minneapolis, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I'm sure we've all heard of that, so I won't explain (did I explain the others?). I wish I would have discovered PKD earlier on in my reading career. What a swell dude.
listsofbests.com is a pretty interesting and fun site. He has all different "top 100" lists and the like, and you can check off the movies, books, albums that you've consumed and it stores all of them in a database. I've got about 330 things in my profile as of right now. Check it out.

An admittedly shoddy story update here. Very short, very, very bad.

I took the bus to the central library after work today and checked out two books. A Canticle for Liebowitz and some book about writing in shorthand. An explanation follows: I want to learn how to write in shorthand so I don't need to lug around a computer whenever I want to let the creative juices flow. I read somewhere that Gregg Shorthand lets you write up to ten times faster than longhand printing, whereas cursive only gives you a ten percent increase in speed. Speed is crucial when you want to write, and the ideas pop out just as fast as they pop in. Plus, nobody would be able to read it but me...I think. Most likely.
Dustin rattled off a few words in his blog about torcpress.com. I just want to say that I really didn't enjoy reading issue number five of Cactus Joe or whatever the fuck it's called. However, I deeply respect the steadfast manner in which the author of these comics (forgot his name) continues to develop his ideas and skills in such a non-lucrative arena, nobly ignoring all opposition to his endeavors in search of some higher attainment, some distant, but ever nearing goal. Someday, yes, someday I hope to be like this man.
And now it's time to open up good old MS Word, I have a hankerin' for some, uh...hankering. Writing, that is.

The above image is a screen shot from "Sternkriege". A very intriguing film I wrote, directed, edited, produced and acted in. Stay tuned for clips or even a purchase form!
